I admit YOUR HOUSE IS ON FIRE, YOUR CHILDREN ALL GONE was a genre stretch for me, but not pushing yourself can end up missing things right in front of you. Penguin Books made reading this haunting tale possible and I always like the idea to share so there is a giveaway for you, BOO!
Where to start without tipping you off to the ghoulish events that will unfold for you. Yikes start with the creepy yet brilliant cover that both repels and draws you to the book. And do not forget to tilt it for the secret message that will send a chill up your spine.
Once children of this village: Christian, Martin, Linde are reunited at the funeral of another childhood friend Anke. So the tale of their most bizarre youth is shared in the chapters that follow. The stories of their youth are told by each of these characters, even Anke has a voice in the story that was her childhood.
Hemmersmoor is a village on the Devil’s Moor that time has not touched. This village keeps to itself and does not welcome strangers. This could be the backdrop for an idyllic life but it is completely the opposite. Was it the fears and suspicions of the adults that lead to the children’s behavior or were the children evil or is it just the village that is cursed. But unlike a normal place these irrational feelings and beliefs lead to murder after murder after murder, you get the idea.
While I thought your YOUR HOUSE IS ON FIRE, YOUR CHILDREN ALL GONE was the eeriest book I have ever read I could not put it down. Kiesbye has captured evil on the pages of this book and done so with a writing style that is captivating and drew me back over and over again when all I wanted to do was run to anything fiction light.
Horror oozes from every chapter of YOUR HOUSE IS ON FIRE, YOUR CHILDREN ALL GONE and I was spooked every time I returned to Hemmersmoor. However, not the kind of spooked where you look over your shoulder because this evil was contained in this village and in the mind of Kiesbye. If ever a book were right for a Halloween inspired giveaway this is the one.

This book sounds really creepy. Would love to read it
I’d love to read this one…you’re the second review I’ve read that enjoyed it. I’m not much of a horror reader, but I did really enjoy Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn….so very creepy. I’m listening now to her Dark Places, and it’s creepy, but more in a strange murderer kind of way.
Pick me pick me!! LOL.
